Governor Dayton Orders Flags to Half-Staff in Observation of the 16th Anniversary of 9/11 Attacks

ST. PAUL, MN – In observance of the sixteenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Governor Mark Dayton has ordered all United States flags and Minnesota flags be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in the State of Minnesota from sunrise until sunset on Monday, September 11, 2017.

As a mark of respect for the victims of this tragedy, Governor Dayton has proclaimed Monday to be “Patriot Day and A Day of Service and Remembrance” in the State of Minnesota. In solidarity with the rest of the nation, the Governor encourages all Minnesotans to observe the National Moment of Silence at 7:46 a.m. Central Daylight Time.

The Governor’s proclamation reads:

WHEREAS: September 11, 2017 marks the 16th anniversary of the terrorist attacks against the United States of America in which thousands of innocent people were killed, maimed, or injured; and

WHEREAS: Police officers, fire and rescue personnel, other first responders, and American citizens demonstrated extraordinary bravery; and

WHEREAS: The people of Minnesota have set aside this day to honor, remember, and mourn the victims of this tragedy; and

WHEREAS: The Minnesota Department of Transportation will light the I, 35W Bridge in Minneapolis the colors of the flag of the United States of America on Monday, September 11, 2017, in honor of victims of the attacks; and

WHEREAS: It is right and proper for all Minnesotans to observe a moment of silence beginning at 7:46 a.m. Central Daylight Time, to honor the innocent victims who perished as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

WHEREAS: President Donald J. Trump asks that the people of the United States honor and remember the victims of September 11, 2001, and their loved ones through prayer, contemplation, memorial services, the visiting of memorials, evening candlelight remembrance vigils, and other appropriate ceremonies and activities.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, MARK DAYTON, Governor of Minnesota, do hereby proclaim Monday, September 11, 2017, as “PATRIOT DAY ANDA DAY OF SERVICE AND REMEMBRANCE” in the State of Minnesota, and order all United States flags and Minnesota flags to be flown at half-staff at all state buildings in the State of Minnesota, from sunrise until sunset, on Monday, September 11, 2017, as a mark of respect for the victims of this tragedy.
