Governor Walz Orders Flags Flown at Half-Staff in Honor of Minnesota Conservation Officer Eugene Wynn
ST. PAUL, MN – In honor and remembrance of Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Eugene Wynn, Governor Tim Walz has ordered all United States flags and Minnesota flags to be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in the State of Minnesota, from sunrise until sunset on Friday, April 26, 2019.
As a first responder, peace officer, and protector of Minnesota’s natural resources, Officer Eugene Wynn dedicated his life to keeping Minnesotans safe and making our state a better place to live.
Officer Wynn was killed in the line of duty while executing a search and rescue mission on Cross Lake near Pine City on Friday, April 19, 2019. The visitation and funeral are open to the public.
VISITATION: Friday, April 26, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. at the Pine City Civic Center (1225 Main St. South, Pine City, MN 55063)
FUNERAL: Friday, April 26, 2019 at 12 p.m. at the Pine City Civic Center (1225 Main St. South, Pine City, MN 55063).
At the direction of the Governor, Minnesota flies its flags at half-staff following the death of Minnesota first responders fallen in the line of duty, on the day of interment.
Governor Walz’s proclamation reads as follows:
WHEREAS: Conservation Officer Eugene Wynn, Jr. dedicated 18 years of exemplary service to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources; and
WHEREAS: Conservation Officer Wynn was an outstanding Conservation Officer, who was admired and respected by his colleagues, and served with dignity and pride; and
WHEREAS: Conservation Officer Wynn was passionate about camping, fishing, and hunting, and sharing those outdoor experiences with family and friends; he fulfilled his dream of becoming a Conservation Officer and was fiercely loyal to his law enforcement family; and
WHEREAS: Conservation Officer Wynn died in the line of duty on Friday, April 19; and
WHEREAS: Conservation Officer Wynn is survived by his wife, Heather Wynn; children, Sophie and EJ; parents, Eugene Sr. and Linda Wynn.; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends; and
WHEREAS: The State of Minnesota recognizes Conservation Officer Wynn for his dedicated service to, and sacrifice for, his fellow citizens with its deepest gratitude, and all thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and entire community.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, TIM WALZ, Governor of Minnesota, do hereby order all United States flags and Minnesota flags be flown at half-staff at all State and Federal buildings in Minnesota, from sunrise until sunset, on Friday, April 26, in honor and remembrance of Conservation Officer Eugene Herman Wynn, Jr.
