Governor Walz Orders Flags Flown at Half-Staff in Honor of the Victims of the Tragedies in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio

ST. PAUL, MN – In honor and remembrance of the victims of the tragic shootings that took place in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio, and in accordance with an order issued by President Donald Trump, Governor Tim Walz has ordered all United States flags and Minnesota flags to be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in the State of Minnesota, until sunset, August 8, 2019. The order comes after the acts of violence took place on August 3 and 4, respectively.

“I am devastated to hear about the tragedy in El Paso today, and heartbroken for the families and loved ones of those lost from this horrific act of violence,” said Governor Walz.

The Governor’s proclamation reads as follows:

WHEREAS: On Saturday, August 3 and Sunday, August 4, 2019 terrible acts of
violence were perpetrated against innocent victims in El Paso, Texas and
Dayton, Ohio; and

WHEREAS: The victims and their families deserve our honor, respect, and
remembrance; and

WHEREAS: The President of the United States of America has lowered United States flags at all public buildings, grounds, and military posts of the Federal
Government until sunset on Thursday, August 8, 2019.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, TIM WALZ, Governor of Minnesota, do hereby order all United States flags and Minnesota flags be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings in the State of Minnesota immediately until sunset on Thursday, August 8, 2019, in memory of the victims of this tragedy.
