On August 6, 2019, Daniel R. Olsen American Legion Post 594 Commander / 3rd District Vice Commander John Flynn met with State Senator Jim Carlson to discuss current veterans issues and specifically the Veterans Restorative Justice Act (HF 998). If passed, the bill would expand this Justice Act to allow any county or city in Minnesota to establish and operate a veterans pretrial diversion program. This program would assist veterans within the court system throughout the state. It could also save taxpayers over $1,300,000 during the first two years, according to a study performed by the MN Department of Corrections. Senator Carlson is a strong supporter of this bill. Tommy Johnson, VFW Department of Minnesota Legislative Officer, also participated and provided meaningful insights.
